Member of the Steering Committee

Sue Schettle, BS, is chief executive officer of the Twin Cities Medical Society, a membership organization representing physicians, medical students and residents who live or work in the 7-county metro area, and founder of Honoring Choices Minnesota. Honoring Choices’ mission is to promote advance care planning and to ensure every person’s health care choices are clearly defined and honored. She also heads the Twin Cities Medical Society Foundation, the society’s philanthropic arm. She directed in the mid-2000s a project aimed at passage of local ordinances building toward the statewide Freedom to Breathe Act, she is now engaged in similar work through the Physician Advocacy Network which is working to educate, empower and engage physicians in efforts to restrict e-cigarettes, hookahs and other tobacco products. Chair of the Alliance’s advance care planning workgroup, she and members of her staff have worked with Twin Cities Public Television, health system and academic leaders, and other interested groups and individuals to increase Minnesotans’ use of advance care planning. The medical society also has led efforts to reduce obesity. Passionate about working to effect change, Schettle says she “can’t think of a more meaningful issue to tackle than reducing the burden of cancer in Minnesota.”
